Lussier victory in the US

Dave Lussier, Green Party candidate for Albany County Legislature (7th District), claimed a victory Tuesday night. With all election districts reporting, Lussier leads by 531 to 526 against Democratic Brian Scavo.

The Board of Elections this evening informed Lussier campaign manager Peter LaVenia that the paper ballots (absentee and affidavits) will be counted a week from this Wednesday.

Lussier thanked the many neighborhood activists who supported his candidacy in the closing month of the elections, as well as Green party supporters who volunteered hundreds of hours to support his candidacy.

Canadian nurses to see Sicko for free: distributor

Inspired by the Alberta nurses who recently handed out free tickets to Michael Moore's Sicko, the film's Canadian distributor will provide free admission to all Canadian nurses next week.

Alliance Atlantis announced on Thursday that it will provide free admission to the health-care documentary for nurses across the country from Monday through Thursday.

"We applaud the United Nurses of Alberta for their enthusiasm and hope to encourage others in the nursing profession to see the film that continues to spark debate across this country," Alliance Atlantis said in a statement.

Big time RegisterFly update!!

So a lot has happened lately, and Green Joe fans, we have the latest scoop with the on-going RegisterFly saga!

ICANN announced yesterday that industry leader Go Daddy will be the "transfer agent" for all 850,000 of RegisterFly's domain names.

Go Daddy has a FAQ available and announcement for those who are going over to them.

A few days ago, a US judge granted a permanent injunction, and fined Kevin Medina and RegisterFly $5000/day for each day they fail to comply at a court hearing that Medina actually showed up to!

Good luck, I have a feeling current RegisterFly customers may still need it.

In concempt of court

Kevin Medina and the baddies at RegisterFly have been held in contempt of court for failing to turn over records to ICANN from the prior injunction.

They can now storm the offices. Question is when will this happen, and when will Kevin be going to jail?

The big bad ICANN update

Here's the latest scoop, Sailor Moon fans... er... I mean... ICANN fans.

A few days ago, a US federal judge allowed ICANN to immediately pull RegisterFly's accreditation. This is good news, because it will allow for the immediate bulk transfer of any remaining names with RegisterFly.

For a while there was a nasty rumor that Kevin Medina was attempting to sell the RegisterFly user data. This has not been confirmed nor denied.

As for Mike Zupke (he needed a shoutout,) he's busy becoming an ordained Minister. Lots of people are out there needing spiritual counseling now, due to this disaster.

So does anyone actually think this will work? Mr Medina is already a criminal, why would he comply with a TRO and turn over the data?

CTV is reporting that Liberal Leader Stephan Dion won't run anyone against Elizabeth May.

Normally I am extremely opposed to "deal making," but in this case, to see May win her seat, I don't mind. I think she stands a good chance of winning. I just hope this is the only time any "deal making" occurs.

Osama bin Laden for CEO of ICANN

ICANN released the transcripts today from the public and board consultations on RegisterFly. Also, they have put out a FAQ.

In response to ICANN's incompetence, I am going to give you 6 reasons why Osama bin Laden should be CEO of ICANN.

6. We know he's a terrorist. ICANN pretends they're not, but yet they are still unable to do the job the Dept of Commerce has mandated them to do.

5. He gets the job done. ICANN couldn't even manage to pull RegisterFly's accreditation on time.

4. He was trained by the CIA. I think Paul Levins and Mike Zupke were probably trained by Penn and Teller. Or maybe not. I doubt Penn and Teller would ever train those lousy guys. That's a step down for them.

3. The US still hasn't caught bin Laden. ICANN hasn't caught RegisterFly.

2. Osama bin Laden is about 50 years old. ICANN is about... 8 years old. Why let a child do things when we can have a pro.

1. The the #1 reason Osama bin Laden should be CEO of ICANN: At least he won't do any worse than they've already done. Sure he may want to blow a few things up, but at least with him, we know where we stand.

Now, for a note. This was meant as satyre. That said, I'm partially serious. If ICANN is incapable of doing their job, it's time for them to either be disbanded, or new leadership and tossing out Vint Cerf is desperaterly needed.

Please help bring some sanity back to ICANN.

ICANN files for chapter 11

ICANN today stated at a news conference that they have filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. RegisterFly started proceedings this past week, as reported here on Green Joe, that involved taking ICANN to arbitration over losing accreditation. This delays the inevitable by at least 30 days.

Paul Levins, one of ICANN's Vice Presidents told the media:

"We are under intense pressure and scrutiny. The lawsuit against RegisterFly and by RegisterFly's customers has lead us into a situation where we are deep into the red."

Levins went on to say that any remaining assets from ICANN following liquidation would be donated to PBS and President Bush's Iraq deployment plan. Levins said that following ICANN's bankrupcy, he and fellow employee Mike Zupke plan to take a long vacation.

In a not so stunning blog post, ICANN has announced that industry-fraudster RegisterFly has another 30 days to keep ICANN accreditation because... they are going to arbitration. Let me put on my shocked face.

So during the arbitration process, RegisterFly may continue to rip off customers. There will be no bulk transfer of domain names yet. Another example of ICANN incompetence. Has anyone called Dubyah yet? ICANN reports to the US Dept of Commerce, and the Dept of Commerce reports to the Secretary who reports to the President.

Convenient. If we are lucky, RegisterFly may get shut down sometime before... Christmas... 2020.

ICANN will make the news in another blog post, but according to a comment left by Paul Levins, RegisterFly has chosen to dispute their being dropped as a registrar.

And we thought ICANN might finally act after getting pissed off.

Guess that was short lived. ICANN really is a bunch of crusty old men with no teeth. No teeth. It's time for ICANN to be dismantled and replaced. The end.

Time to face facts: The Quebec election

I have had some time to digest the Quebec provincial election.

For those who have been hiding under a rather large rock, the Liberals won a minority government. The surprising part, was for a while we thought the ADQ may win a minority government, despite the fact that they had never held more than 5 seats in the legislature.

That wouldn't have been good.

Harper is happy. The ADQ did well. I think Harper needs to reconsider his priorities. The ADQ did well because of the protest vote. The Green Party of Quebec increased their overall vote, though I have to admit I was extremely disappointed that they didn't elect anyone. None. Nada. Zip. Zilch. Zero.

So what does it mean in the end?

The voters are tired of the lies from the Liberals and mainstream parties, and want a change. Too bad that change wasn't the Green Party.

The lawsuit begins

We knew it was coming.

Sooner, or later.

It would happen. Everyone in the US is "sue happy."

However, in this case, it is justified. A lawsuit has been filed against ICANN, eNom and of course... our favourite, REGISTERFLY!!!

The class action has started. They will all finally be held accountable.

To potential jurors: Award large sums of money. Billions would be best.

I'm amazed.

I am in utter shock, and amazement.

ICANN has finally "got it". They have finally snapped, stepped into the real world, and understood the utter anger that RegisterFly customers have been feeling for the last two - three months, minimum.

They get it.

ICANN gets it.

This is a day to celebrate, ladies, gentlemen, and green party voters.

We need to celebrate that ICANN got angry.

ICANN never gets angry.

Now they are angry. And not just angry, but pissed off.

They finally get it.

Thank you Paul Levins. You get it. A little too late, but you finally get it.

ICANN needs your help! If you've been reading up about the RegisterFly saga here on Green Joe, you know that they have lost their accreditation.

The problem is, RegisterFly is being dishonest. They haven't removed the ICANN logo from their website, and they haven't informed their customers about loosing ICANN accreditation.

So please pass the word on to your friends and family. Chances are someone they know may be a RegisterFly customer.

The honourable thing

Kevin Medina, the CEO of former ICANN accreditated registrar RegisterFly should do the honourable thing, and commit Seppuku. He screwed up, and now there are fine business people who were already considering this. Kevin Medina is a very bad man and should face the punishment for his crimes.

Christine Jones, Attorney for competitor Go Daddy had some interesting insights into the issue on last night's episode of Life Online with Bob Parsons.

At the end of 2006, I posted briefly about the film Eragon.

Today it was finally released on DVD. In accordance with my policy to watch all new DVD's in the first 30 days, I watched this today. It was almost as good at the first time I saw it. Plenty of excitement, a cute lead actor, and a great storyline. What more can you want?

Run out to the store and pick up a copy. I can't wait for the sequel.
