Why I love Go Daddy

Go Daddy is the new domain name registrar for greenjoe.net, since I was able to get it away from RegisterFly following the debacle. I'm not a new Go Daddy customer though, and I have to admit to liking them, despite some well published opposition.

1. CEO Bob Parsons has both his own radio show and blog. Is that frickin sweet or what? How many CEO's have their own radio show? Sure it's opportunistic, but the range of topics is great, and the blog is a good read.

2. They eliminate spammers. You cannot run or hide if you use Go Daddy and are a spammer. Illegal sites cannot run or hide either.

3. Low prices. Why do I need to pay $35/year when I can pay significantly less?

4. Those commercials. No matter what, those commercials of Go Daddy's are sweet.

5. American Chopper. Nuff said.

ICANN is a bunch of crusty men who got caught with their pants down.

ICANN is the domain name overlord for all of Earth. It is looked over by the US Department of Commerce. ICANN are the lazy-asses who refused to act on the RegisterFly debacle an entire year before they actually did. Early in 2006, before RegisterFly even got the mysterious accreditation from ICANN, there were complaints. And ICANN did nothing.

Now according to the website Register Flies, ICANN is seeking a court order to get the database that contains the few domain names still registered with RegisterFly. On the positive side, ICANN worked with the back end providers such as Verisign, to ensure that any expiring domains still controlled by RegisterFly, won't be deleted until this situation is cleared up.

ICANN needs a serious lesson in customer experience, and needs some reorganization so they can better protect consumers. If they can't be a watchdog, then they are ineffective, and should be disbanded.
