My top 10 of 2006
Because every blog needs one, I'll go over the top 10 things in the world (politics, music, etc.) that have impacted me and the world.
10. London North Centre - While I believe Elizabeth May should have won the riding, she did quite well, and if had at least had single transferable vote, she would have won, IMHO.
9. Saddam Hussein - He terrorized Iraq for a long time, and now he's dead. Ding dong the witch is dead!
8. Stephane Dion - He's not an improvement on the other previous leaders. Same old of the same old, really. However, he made my list at number 8 because he is the new Liberal leader.
7. Senate of Canada - Senate reform, despite Green party declarations on it, will help the party. Finally a house with proportional representation. GP, get over yourselves! Help to embrace this opportunity!
6. Elizabeth May - She is still a mistake, but she's making progress. She needs to keep her big fat mouth shut on abortion, or she'll be removed.
5. Magnatune - A great source of creative commons, for-profit music. Listen before you buy. No DRM.
4. Eragon - Some call this a Lord of the Rings ripoff. I call it brilliant. A bit slow at the beginning, I can't wait for the next two films. This genre really needs to be allowed to flourish.
3. Garth Turner - The man's ego is so big, he will probably still go green, and soon. The question is, do we really want him?
2. Steve Irwin - I'd rather have the Crocodile Hunter lead the GPC, but sadly, he died this year. A sense of justice, he died the way he lived. Hunting, and seeking out wild animals. He is the greatest activist and environmentalist the world will ever have.
1. Brokeback Mountain - This movie, while extremely sad, and I refuse to ever purchase a copy on DVD, ushered in new thought and ideas on gay relationships. This was the breakthrough movie of 2006. Almost as good as another movie from 1999, Boys Don't Cry.
