TOFINO, B.C.—The mayor of Tofino, B.C., gave the official go-ahead yesterday for businesses to stay open as long as they monitor their own water use.
John Fraser said hotels, resorts and other businesses will have to police themselves, and he warned the taps will be shut off if the town collectively goes above 950,000 litres a day.
"What we're going to offer businesses is, I'd say, a very limited opening," he told a news conference. "We're going to allow consumption to go up to 250,000 gallons. If it goes above 250,000 gallons everybody will be closed down immediately."
